Michael Jordan’s agent, David Falk, recently appeared on an episode of The Boardroom – an interview series headed up by Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman – and revealed some juicy titbits about the origins of Jordan’s deal with Nike.,Falk took the time to chat about the rise of sports business and said that in 1984 when Nike presented a deal to Jordan, the Oregon-based sportswear brand hadn’t yet reached the same status that adidas and Converse boasted. Falk claimed that initially, Jordan wanted to say no to the deal, he said “He didn’t want to go. He didn’t know anything about it, didn’t like the shoes, didn’t want to go.” He goes on to highlight the fact that adidas was then at the top of its game and had already signed most high-profile athletes – and any that hadn’t signed with adidas had already signed with Converse.,Falk revealed that he pushed for the deal that created Jordan Brand because “Nike was the hungriest for Michael.” Ultimately, Falk was right, because now Jordan Brand is one of the world’s most successful sneaker partnerships, Nike owns the Converse company and Michael Jordan has secured himself as a cultural icon.,If you want to see the interview for yourself, check out the video down below!
